Northwestern Home Game Programs Gallery
Part 8: 1953 through 1958
Posted 2/26/12; Updated 11/26/13
NU
returned to original football program cover artwork in 1950. Then, in 1953, under the
art direction of Lew Merrell, Northwestern hit on a distinctive program
cover. The style featured a football-shaped photo cutout of some
scene from Dyche Stadium, surrounded by a stylized, fifties-style pen
and ink drawing.
Merrell
changed the format slightly each year, but the football-shaped photo
remained a feature of the cover until NU dropped the style after the
1958 season.
