Eastern Illinois Preview and Prediction
By The Lowes Line Staff
Matchup: Eastern Illinois Panthers (1-1) at Northwestern Wildcats (1-1, 0-0 B1G),
Northwestern Medicine Field at Larry and Sharon Martin Stadium, Evanston, IL
Date: Saturday, September 14, 2024, 6:30 pm CDT
TV: BTN
Line: Northwestern (-24.5), o/u: 35.5
Outlook:
“Frustrating”
That’s the word of the week. Another early season loss has
shaken up not only the ‘Cat fans but the coaching staff and
team. Mike Wright just could not get anything done and as
the game progressed, seemingly the coaching staff had no faith in the
offense. The defense was very familiar to the NU
fans. Bend but don’t break. This approach
has won many a game over the past decade or two and appeared to have
another one on the shores of Lake Michigan last Friday
night. Up 13-10, NU “knocked the football out”, recovered
and it looked as if a win was secured. But no, review reversed
the call (Note – “Horse Hockey, play should have stood”).
Duke kicks the tying FG and overtime, the game went. Cam
Porter bowled over everyone and Northwestern was up 7.
Yay!! As quickly as an early Mike Tyson fight, the
unbreakable D, collapsed. Duke scored and then scored again
in the second OT. What the heck happened! Well,
NU had the ball and it was still Cam time. 3rd and
1. Alright, just get the first down and then concentrate on the
end zone. Wait, NOOOOO!!!.
Wright fakes and tries to run outside, and is swarmed for a
loss. 4th down was just a formality. It was
over. Duke continues their dominance of
Northwestern.
Well, enough was enough. Jack Lausch takes the reins at
QB. A local boy, with legs, it will be interesting to see what
changes in the offense. Get the ball to the skill
players and get the running game to dominate and this game should be
over. The defense will play well as Braun and McGarigle
continue to mold this into a B1G Defense. NU’s
opponent today is Eastern Illinois. They were decimated by
the Illini in week 1 – 45 to 0 and beat the Sycamores from Indiana
State last week by a touchdown. NU should win this game and
handily. Let’s get it on
Pick:
Well, the ‘Cats are favored by 24.5. That’s a lot of points,
‘Cats will win but won’t cover. Final 27-6. Take the
under.
Season To Date:
Straight Up: 1-1, Against The Spread: 1-1
